I'd always pay by credit card, for any purchases (in this case, transactions) at home and abroad.

If there are problems your credit card company will dispute the problem on your behalf.

I would only use a credit card with no overseas charges or loading fees. Halifax Clarity, Post Office for example.

For these cards you get the true exchange rate at time of purchase (or transaction), and there are no fees for purchases / transactions.

If you take money from the wall (cash advances) you will be charged interest from day of withdrawal with the Halifax Clarity, but you will not be charged to take out your own money (normally £2 - 3 a pop).

If you own a Halifax Reward account, you also get a free fiver if you spend £300 per month. Great moneysaving tip!

Halifax Clarity is an excellent card to use overseas - but, if you don't have one, it would take more than 1 week to get one.

Check back later today, as I'm sure there will be other posts advising you!

You didn't make it clear if this transaction was in the UK (with your travel agent), or abroad (at the hotel).

If it's the hotel you need to pay directly, and it's abroad, always pay in local currency - in this case pay in Euro's (you will get a preferential rate).

If it's your travel agent you are paying, obviously that would be sterling.

    Have a nice holiday.
