Car audio consumer advice please

djpleasure wrote: »omg, they don't need to be banned at all, as long as people don't extract the urine and blast at all hours in residential areas, and if they do, they are at risk of being done for causing a disturbance. I'll thank you in advance flyboy for your constructive help with this matter, I'll reach for the thanks button now shall I? I believe the topic title is "Car audio consumer advice please" NOT "Should loud car audio be banned"
But it is not just their use in residential areas that is the problem. It is their general use anywhere that disturbs everyone.
What is their point anyway. Music that loud can't really be heard, only the vibrations. It is also apparently damaging to the hearing, I understand, as well as being very distracting to the driver and other road users and has the potential to cause accidents. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
perhaps something you can create a topic for elsewhere to vent? Music that loud? what is the point in nightclubs, concerts, Glastonbury etc, they too play loud. If passing noise disturbs you as a driver, perhaps you should not drive, you should be able to cope with any event, if passing car audio effects your driving, that's a scary thought, please tell me you dont drive or cycle, you are a pedestrian, I will be more at ease then. There are distractions you pass that output much higher din than car audio. Distraction to me as a driver? I have years and years of no claims, i am aware of my surroundings and can hear what I need to hear, sirens etc. There are far more pressing issues with road users than car audio, but then common sense cant be taught. And no different to cyclist with walkmans on and ignorance of traffic signals. How many incompetent drivers are there? those with no awareness or common sense, how many are past it and seriously need retests or removing from the roads, especially those who took tests before hazard perception, theory tests etc. Those that use mobiles, even though we have bluetooth etc, so no need to hold the handset. These all have the potential to cause accidents. Then there is, talking whilst driving, this is considered hazardous as the driver is not 100% focused, so we ban audio, ban talking and everything else, sit in vehicles travelling as mutes admiring the countryside, or concrete jungles, whatever the case maybe.0

If you want a sound system that goods, you need speakers than play all of the music... A 6" speaker in a door is never going to reproduce low notes very well.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Who said anything about loud?

I agree, an ideal setup imo although maybe not top end is running the headunit (cdplayer etc) through an active crossover, then the crossover sends the various frequencies to the relevant amps, then onto the speakers. Ideally a separate amplifier for tweeters, another for mid range and then of course another for sub low bass frequencies, all adjustable independently through the crossover, then you get a balanced clean sound, not vocals distorting when the bass hits, as no major bass is driven through the mid/top end, not too much bass so as you cant hear the vocal and top end.
Even good high end audio for the home is common to be Bi-amped, one driving bass, the other driving mids/tops, you are talking hifi that costs thousands and is not very loud at all, but the clarity is amazing, the point is, if you enjoy your audio and want good clean sound and seperation, then this is the way to go. Just because someone has speakers capable of very loud, does not mean they play them to the max. I would rather have high power subs, that when I play, they are just ticking over, not straining the amp or the speakers. If you have a 3 litre car with 150mph top speed, it does not mean we are going to drive at that speed......get my point? I guess you have to like audio to sound right to understand, playing music as the producer/artist designed it to be heard
On that note, any more advice on the original issue lol0 -

Wrong. Powering speakers with a vastly lower rated amp does not mean you can pour 100% volume from the amp with no issue. If you're above 70% volume on the amp, the signal will likely be distorted, greatly increasing the chance of blowing speakers, even though its technically 'within range' - this is also saying nothing about the input signals quality.

But the trouble is they are too often played at full blast, in what seemingly appears to be a deliberate attempt to annoy the public at large. Even at, what many users would consider to be, low volumes, can be detrimental to the peace an quite of everybody else. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Djpleasure why did you buy dual cone speakers if you wanted bass?
Dual cone means the inner cone only do higher frequencies and these are not wanted if you are pumping bass in
Im not surprised youve burnt the voice coils out
Try some speakers fit for the job next time, i use a bass guitar speaker for my bass speaker in my living room for the surround sound system, the house would shake to bits before i blew the coil .
You are lucky you didnt blow the amp too0 -
