oven element gone again

Hi there

We replaced the element in our 13 year old oven a few months back as it had stopped heating up - everything else worked, light, fan etc.

Now this evening, half way through cooking dinner, the power tripped off and the oven is broken again.

So - could the new element have been faulty, or is there something else going on which causes the element to fail? Just wondered if it's worth trying another new element.

It's not an expensive make (whirlpool) so maybe its just reached the end...? It cost about £200 IIRC so I guess we've had our money's worth :)

Not sure if yours would be the same thing, but a few months after we had the element done on our oven the thermostat went. Had it replaced and for our oven it was still cheaper than a new one.
Also, did you get a part guarantee? As they usually are covered for six months.
    Back on the trains again!

    Hi there

Same thing happened to me recently. I replaced oven heater element and the new element had a 12 month warranty. If you have the receipt there should be a date stamp on the element stating when it was made.

    Hope this helps

Replacements never seem to last as long as the originals - I don't know if that applies to genuine replacements. Mine is around £60 for a genuine part or a cheap replacement from ebay is around £5 including postage. The ebay ones seem to last around 12-18 months. Are you capable of replacing the element youself? I use the ebay ones and keep a spare one handy. I've got swapping it over in 15 mins down to a fine art. This is most convenient and cost-effective to me.

However, if you need to get someone in each time I would make sure they fit an original genuine part and hopefully it will last longer.

Thanks Chris, yes we bought the cheap one from ebay last time. felt pretty pleased we had fixed it ourselves so we will replace it again - we have experience now!

Perhaps we'll order 2 this time...
