Has anyone blanked off the EGR on a vw PD engine if so have you noticed any difference to running etc?
it is a mechanical valve on these so will not throw a CEL code just after other peoples thoughts as my valve is playing up again.

AFAIK (im no expert on Diesels) they don't need to be there, they're simply fitted to reduce emissions and come into line with EU regulations for new cars. They have an adverse affect on fuel economy and performance in much the same way as feeding crank case breather hoses (oil vapour) into the inlet manifold does.
Removing it also reduces the amount of crud building up in that inlet manifold, hence giving the engine a slightly longer life and certainly prolonging the life of the various sensors attached to the inlet (which would last a lot longer if not having sooty deposits building up on them).
Why would a manufacture make their car less reliable? They don't cause problems until way after the warranty runs out.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

As above, Blocking it stops it feeding oily sticky gunk into the inlet system.
Cleaner inlet and turbo, More power, Better economy.
Sometimes you may notice slightly more diesel engine noise at light throttle.

Would it possibly have to go back on for mot emmissions??I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Apparently not, I think it's only necessary for the car to gain EU regs approval prior to mass manufacture.

In some cases blanking the egr will throw a CEL. This can be mapped out though, and depends on what pd engine you intend to do it to.0
