Salty Dog Investor.....

Be interesting to see how you get on.
What I saw didn't seem that deep unless you get more than the newsletter, it didn't seem to have very much depth. I could be being unfair to them though as I didn't see the full service.
I have subscribed to a market technical analysis sheet to get a feel for market 'value' but it is a lot less than £30/month.0 -
You're right -- it isn't that deep, though perhaps that's why I like the format.
What it essentially does is to make me think about my investments and investment strategy, the lack of which is a bad weakness in my approach thus far. Getting the weekly updates will prompt me to keep an eye on what I'm doing.
But I'm not totally naive. I'm aware that there are a number of free sources with similar information out there. What I hope is that this service will get me into some good habits which I can then continue without paying. I will try it for a couple of months beyond the 2 month free trial. I have only to profit a little over that period to have made it worthwhile.
Where am I at the moment? Mostly in cash, but planning to adopt the Salty Dog methodology in earnest, once the Euro Summit is out of the way. That said, I have bought some banking stocks recently, as mentioned, to try to add a bit of capital to my pot before I tackle Salty Dog.
Good luck with the technical analysis service."I don't mind if a chap talks rot. But I really must draw the line at utter rot." - PG Wodehouse0 -
I do like the idea of what they are trying to do but it doesn't go far enough for me.
I think in a perfect world I would be keen on a steroids version of Trustnet or Morningstar that you could easily get behind your portfolio and market data. Not sure one exists for private investors.
I quite like the Technical Analysis sheet ("Technical Take") I get, probably as it sort of confirms my prejudices (relatively bearish right now) and is driven on sentiment as well as charts. Worth a look on his webpage at the free weekly summary he does.0 -

You could pay £5000 a year to Financial Express to get the paid for version of Trustnet. That is Trustnet on steroids.
However, Its unlikely you would want to do thatI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I'm currently using this system & have been for 3 months now. I have found it a real eye opener in helping me grasp the basics of running a sipp whilst using the data it provides to make informed choices about what happens with my money. You become an active investor at your own pace/risk choice, it would be interesting to swap views on the subject if anyone else is involved?0
