Hi,
Just trying to help someone at work.
They have a Romanian Passport with a permanent resident UK visa on it.
They are looking to travel to Belgium but need to know if any other paperwork is required. There is an info line for the Belgium Embassy but it charges £1 per minute
Can anyone help

Is Romania in the EU yet? If so, I don't think you need any extra documents.
also, this is their normal number 020 7470 3700 in case you want to check0 -
Romania might need a Schengen visa - i don't know for sure but it's best to check before booking your travel. Even though Romania is part of the EU from 1st Jan '07 I wouldn't assume you or your friend can freely right away. It's better to be safe than sorry so check with your travel agent or contact the Romanian consulate for further information.0

Your friend can most certainly travel freely, without further documentation to and from Belgium. All Romanian nationals no longer need anything other than their passport to travel freely within the EU. For further peace of mind get them to check their visa which should show that it is a multiple entry/exit type which would have gauranteed freedom of movement even before January. You should also make your friend aware (if they are not already) that as of the 15th of January they can fly from Luton to Bucharest for £29.99 with wizzair, an absolutely colossal saving on previous carriers. I live in Romania about 6 months of the year BTW...tell your friend if they visit Scotland and fancy a glass of palinca and a bowl of 'ciorbe de burta' to drop me a line!0

By the way, Embassies should not charge £1 a minute to EU nationals or their family members as this charge is unlawful under the EU law.0
