open source drivers for my hardware so my wifi and tvout works simply with linux,

    the driac codec finished,

seriously hardware assistance for mpec4 encoding, like 10 times real time + so you can make a pvr that can grab multiple streams, preferabley hidef 1080p's then encode them so the disk isnt filled in minutes

thoughs 300gig holographic disks out in time to beat blueray and hddvd.

someone to build a settop box with a network/wifi interface, space for 4 hard disks in a lvm, support for 1080p mpeg4 decoding, dvd drive, hdmi and a good upscaller like mplayer oh and modualar sound card interface so you can chose 7.1 /5.1/ 2.1 etc

basicly i think the whole integrated single pvr media center tied to the tv is about the only thing left to do, most people accept that games will get prettyer and have more ai but an itegrated media center like xbmc only better is about the only major tech shift left obvioult the future ones will have the ability to skipe mpeg4 video telephone calls though.

I'm sure you can get a hardware MPEG4 encoder at this speed for under £1000.

Even if this did happen it would probably be cheaper to by a 300GB 2.5inch HDD with a USB2 caddy.

You can get miniITX boards that will do that for set top box sizes machines.

If by 'PC' you mean Windows. I would like to see iWork and BASH. Or I could just keep my Mac :)

You can run BASh on Windows

Without Cygwin? Cool, still won't make me use Windows though :)

You need the cygwin dll, but all that does is convert a few calls that don't exist in the Windows API.

Something to keep better track of my dvd's! There has got to be something better than Datacrow
  • This is probably already available but to be honest I haven't really looked.

Something that will tell me what programs on my PC are accessing the internet and what bandwidth each of those applications is using.

I use movie collector http://www.collectorz.com. Along with a cheap barcode scanner, I'd catalogued all my dvd's in no time. Has a loan function as well to keep track of lending to your friends etc.
