New Insurance Law - How long do I have to SORN?

Hi,

I am sure this has probably come up before but just looking for a wee bit of help.

My sister is moving abroad, I'm buying her car cheap to sell on. She's stupidly cancelling her insurance tomorrow even though saying she would keep it insured until I sell.

So, I realise I should be declaring it off road but selling an untaxed car is more difficult and I will be aiming to sell it very quickly.

I read somewhere that you get a warning and then you get the £100 penalty.

Anyone know how long you have before getting warning then the penalty?

The car will be on a drive and not being driven (I realise this still isn't allowed!)

Any help much appreciated!

The first thing they do is send you a warning letter, so you have at least until then

or just keep it in your sisters name and they'll send the letter to her; seeing as she's moved abroad she won't care.
