Dial up Connection for Laptop

Hope someone can help me with this:
We currently have broadband which we use for with a Desktop PC and a laptop via a router.
As we have now bought this laptop specifically for my daughter to use, she wanted to take it to her grandparents and do the usual kids MSN stuff whilst she was there.
My parents dont have a computer, is there anyway that we can connect to the internet via a dial up connection? If so would we need a ISP dics from say Tesco as I believe they charge 1p per min? even though we are on skybroadband at home. Do the charge get invoiced to you or onto the owners BT bill.
I'm a little confused
Thanks

dial up is just like making a phone call; so the charges go on your bt phone bill.
you can sign up online. not sure if they will send you a cd or give you an install file. https://register.tesco.net/online0 -
Presumably the laptop has a built-in dial up modem (most do). Connect the laptop to the phone socket using a telephone cable. You can register with a dial-up ISP, e.g. Tesco and use them, or use an ISP which you don't have to register with. You don't really need an installation CD, just create a new dial-up networking connection using the username, password and phone number provided by the ISP. The dial-up charges are billed to the home owner's telephone bill.0

Does your ISP offer a back-up dial up number that you can use for free access, if there are problems with your broadband access? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

i doubt very much Sky Broadband will give a free phone number for dial up as its a company that just loves to squeeze every last penny out of you!
i just didnt really want to start having to put even more software on the laptop just for occassional use and then having to set up email accounts etc and then have all my current settings messed up.0 -

You don't need to install any software or insert any ISP CD's into your machine. Simply follow the instructions to set up a new connection at one of the free dial-up providers like this one. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Just to clarify, the free dial-up ISP's are free and do not require registration, however you will be charged by your telecoms provider for the call i.e. 1p per minute or less. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Depending how long your daughter is at her grandparents
She could use the free 1 month Trial available via AOL CD's - seems when this is cancelled - don't forget to cancel - you may be offered another free month.
There may also be an offer of a months dial-up for 1p from BT. look at post 7# on this posting http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=341477
I would never suggest that she tries to find unsecured networks near her grandparents home, as this is illegal - unless the neighbour agreed - but that may be against the neighbour's ISP's T&C'sRich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0
