Hi
My name is spelt differently as in by one letter on my passport, driving licence and bank cards etc comapred to what it is spelt on some bills and my university enrollment. For example (this is not my actual name just an example) on my passport and licence my name is Jonathan Paul Smith but on some bills it is Jonathen Paul Smith with a change in one letter i.e. the a and e. I prefer to spell my name as Jonathen with the e and that is the details i gave to uni etc to enrol me.
My query is for my loan application I gave my name as Jonathen Paul Smith with the date of birth, address etc all the same obviously and my bank details (in which my name is spelt with the a not the e). I passed the credit check etc.
I was wondering when they did the credit check would both names appear with both a and the e as my date of birth, address(lived at address for over 10 years) were all given which are obviusly the same? Just want to make sure that everything is ok
Thanks

It could catch up with you at some time in the future.
Why not do it properly and get a deed poll to change your name?0 -

would this change in one letter cause major problems even though my middle and last name are the exact same? to use the example jonathan paul smith and jonathen paul smith.
I am very worried now!0 -
It depends. Some companies don't even look, they enter the details into their PC and it says "no" as according to the PC, Jonathan and Jonathen are not the same. You might be able to correct it with a visit or phone call, but its just added hassle I'm sure you dont want.
The more databases you are on as "Jonathen" the more likely it'll be accepted (eg. licensing), but the best way would be deed poll and then inform everyone of your change in official name.0 -

I have a similar issue and just told everyone to spell my name as on my passport.
I don't have a preferred spelling though as it makes no damn difference.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

You could ask the CRAs to add the incorrect spelling as an alias.
I had to do this for example my name is Clair Amanda Smith and some companies have me as Claire Amanda Smith and its never caused me any problems.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Quite right, adding an alias will link the two names at the CRAs. However I don't think that is the best route, as someone doing a search may look on an alias suspiciously wondering why you have one and it may slow down any automated application you make with manual checks which would probably involve you having to provide ID when opening new accounts for instance.
Think it would be better to correct everything and then stick to your correctly spelt name to save bother in the future.0
