So frustrated with Black Horse!

Hi everyone, hope someone can help.
My OH is in the process of trying to claim back PPI paid on a loan we took from Black Horse which was for a 3 piece suite from SCS in December 2002. The account was closed in March 2007 so has been paid within the last 6 years. The PPI was added without our knowledge, and when my hubby was off sick, he tried to claim on the PPI but was turned down to pre-existing medical condition. When he eventually lost his job due to the same illness, we tried again and were turned again for the same reasons. Therefore, the insurance was completely useless to us.
We have written to them 3 times asking for them to look at the claim. We don't have any details unfortunately, but managed to get the account reference number from our bank which the money was paid against. They have written back saying that they cannot find any trace of our account, and suggested we look on Experian for a reference number. As we have used Experian in the past, we've had to pay £15 for this priviledge, only to discover that the account number isnt displayed in Experian at all, grrrrrrr.
We phoned them and they said that as it is from 2002, we had to write back again and tell them to look in their archives for the file. They have now written back today saying that they still can't find us!!!
Has anyone else had the same experience, if so what did you do? Is this worth taking to FOS now, as we have tried 3 times to get something out of Black Horse and the letter they have sent back is the same over and over again.

Hi there
Do you mind me asking what bank you were paying the direct debits?
With Lloyds, if you bank online they go back to about 2002, the loan account number is normally shown next to the loan monthly repayment.
Otherwise I would call into the branch and speak to the branch manager who should be able to track it down.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Couple of possibilities.
Did you buy from SCS and they arranged the finance, or did you borrow direct from BlackHorse?
(If SCS sold the PPI, have you tried contacting them to see if they have any details?)
Perhaps send a Subject Access Request to BlackHorse? It costs £10, might not produce anything but at least they'll have to check their records very thoroughly.0 -
Hi di and drsqueeze, it was through HSBC, it doesnt appear on my OH bank statements, we phoned the bank and they gave us the reference number that was linked to the payment and the bank account it had to be paid into. We did it with SCS and they arranged the finance, do you think they would still have our details then? However, when we tried to claim the PPI, we did it direct with Black Horse, and when the finance was paid off, the letter came from Black Horse. I really wish I could find it! We moved house last year and you know what happens when you move, can't put our hands on anything!

I know what that's like, everything is probably still around in a "safe place" which nobody can remember!
If the finance was arranged through SCS, then it's possibly SCS who sold the PPI / ticked the box to have it added. It's definitely worth contacting them.0 -
thanks drsqueeze, will see if i can find any contact details for them and give them a try
