Is it mad to sell my car to 'buyanycar' type place?

Personally, I have always traded my old car in to reduce the hassle factor.

I think this is where the OP should be if she wants another car. Perhaps she could take a bloke who can do instantaneous mental arithmetic with her - no use to take a simpleton.

Also, if the OP wants to send me a message, I might buy it from her. It would do me just fine for what I want.
  • Looking at teh description of the car, I would go to an independant retailer and see if they would like it.
Webuyanycar and the ilk will give you tradein price and hit you for fees, A medium to large independant or even a franchise dealer with a healthy 2nd hand section will probably give you the same if not more.
Dont be upset when you drive past a week later and see it for sale at £2k more than they paid you for it though :)
  • If you are not bothered about a little bit of extra hassle, I'd say sell it privately. It's pretty much a fact you will make more money than you would if you went to a 'buyanycar' outfit.

If you are buying another car from a dealer anyway, then get quotes from places like webuyanycar, wewillbuyyourcar, parkers, etc. so that you are armed with a comparative price that you can use in your negotiations.

You may find that the car dealer will offer a similar part exchange price.

Then ask how much discount they would offer on the new(er) car if you purchased without the trade-in.

If only a few percent different, then you can decide if the hassle would be worth it.

Personally, I have always traded my old car in to reduce the hassle factor.

If you want it off your hands and will accept a knocked-downprice then WBAC might be OK for you. Or if it's part-exchange for a new car, you might get a sum back for it but can I make another suggestion?

If you get made a low offer, here's two options- put it in a car auction with that amount as a reserve. Zero hassle, but not much money.

Better than that, offer it around family and friends for the low amount. You'll be happy to let them see it, test-drive it but the rule is you be honest about everything but there's no discussion/argumants/refunds afterwards.

Many people can use a cheap good car and it's better someone you know benefits from the bargain than a stranger. Wife's uncle is now driving around in our last car as pleased as Punch, already had 4 years use of it.
