I run a fansite and saved the profiles that I'd written in preparation for an update to a dvd with pictures etc for the gallery. They were written in M$ Word.
The laptop they were written on died dramatically and I had to get a new one and the version of word that they were written in before has been updated.
Now when I try and open them, I get nothing but a load of squares. Certain other things that were written in the same old version of word open in the new version perfectly fine.
I even sent one to a friend on msn without opening it to see if it was the formatting or something and it still opened as squares and the friend doesn't have Word.
Is there anything I can do to get them working please? I really REALLY don't want to spend ages writing them out again, there's so many

You could try installing openoffice and use that word processor to try and open the documents."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

What versions of Word are talking about? Not sure if I understand, do you and your friend no longer have Word and are trying to open the documents as a text file?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Word documents with squares on used (in my experience) to mean that the file had been corrupted. If you want to send me a sample to check (I've got access to several different versions of Word for both PC and Mac here), PM me for an email address.0

I now have an updated version of word to what I had.
My friend doesn't have Word.
My version now is 2003, the one we had before is 01.
Thank you

Whenever I have important things to keep I email to myself and keep it "out in cyber space" because I can get at it from anywhere.0
