blackberry-internet usage

hi, I upgraded to a blackberry a couple of days ago -my contract includes 500MB monthly internet, 1GB bt openzone and blackberry email services.

i've set up my hotmail address, so that when i get an email, it "pings" up on my phone and i can check it.

my questions are:

on my laptop, i have avast - do you need anything similar on a blackberry?

if by having my emails pinging on my phone, am i constantly using internet access and using my 500MB all the time? (i thought i only used the 500mb if i acutally browsed the web, or clicked on open the email which has pinged up).

wasnt sure to put this on here or the mobile phone forum!
thanks in advance,

Live in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!
  • I think the email comes in as part of the BIS package rather than the internet in your contract. If you actually went to Hotmail to check your email then it'd be using part of your monthly allowance but your Blackberry service is 'intercepting' the mails and forwarding a copy to your BB

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
also you don't require any antivirus on your BB like you do a windows computer, just be sensible and don't install any 'dodgy' apps stick to blackberry app world and not dodgy websites
