  • Thanks for the messages, spoken to friend. He says the joints you can change just the one but its better to get both however there is no difference if you change just one side.

Re: the smoke, he said fill tank 75% and pour injector cleaner and drive foot down on the motor way that should clear things out.

Forgot to specify for how long/miles re the smoke, can anyone here confirm. Also the car is a Mercedes CDI C200.
  • Also, the car had a major service March this year which included oil and oil filter changed.

im sorry but this post has had to be removed because the OP isnt listening
  • Thrash it to within an "inch" of it's life before the test, and that's a serious suggestion;)

When I used to MOT vehicles this is what I used to do to diesel cars especially if they had been "pottered" around town. In 2nd gear red line it and the same with 3rd until the soot had cleared then drove it straight back and put it on the emission tester.

Not only did the emissions go down the car would run better and sometimes get better MPG

Is this for manual cars? Mine is auto so I guess this would not work, am i correct? What is the best suggestion re the emission?

Didn' know that, never worked on many older diesels, how far back are we talking? I know it's a bit off thread can you give me quick overview of how these work?

We are talking early 1990's. You seriously don't know how they work? In the most basic terms, like a distributor which directs diesel instead of spark.

Of course it will work in an auto. See the numbers 1, 2 and 3? Put the little lever to 1 or 2 and follow the advice given.

Because if he is a mechanic, he would have been taught about them when he did his City and Guilds.

It was the way "things were done" for, oh, the thick end of a century.
