Advice on full HD tv prices-& are electrical-deals.co.uk any good??

:jHello all!

Having had great advice from you firendly lot I thought I'd ask your advice...!

We have Virgin Media (TIVO box) & are looking to get a full HD tv for our sitting room (we're about 8-9 foot from the tv). looking at 32 inch/37 inch (40 inch would be nice if sub £300!). need a couple of scart sockets in it at least. At the moment it wwould be a dvd player (not blue-ray-but would consider buying a blu-ray player at some stage), the TIVO box & a ps2 console that would be linked up.

There are SO MANY places to buy & I do get a bit confused by the techie stuff (!).

Also looking as to if it's worth it to buy refurbished/slightly damaged (not fussed about cosmetics!). An example deal would be http://www.electrical-deals.co.uk/toshiba-37rv753-regza-37-inch-full-hd-lcd-tv-freeview-hd.html .

Electrical-deals.co.uk are driveable from where I linve just outside Huddersfield as well-it's all refurb stuff with them with a 1 yr guarantee.

We also have http://www.directtvs.co.uk/content/visit-us.asp?refsource=dtadwords&gclid=COTpm53igKsCFdQNfAodUFGazg in Huddersfield as well.

Also there are loads of e-bay & amazon offers too!

Anyone advise me on if it is REALLY worth the saving for refurb/any reccomendations of places to buy?

Do good old Currys/Comet have deals that match the web? Any advice would be great!

We have used that place in Huddersfied. They were really helpful and at the time the most competitive.

We currently have a Panasonic as we liked it and at the time they got better than average reviews. We got a a compatible (integrated controls) blu ray at the time too but IMO not worth the bunce over a good DVD.

That said I have brought three more TVs since - one plasma, one Sony LCD and one Alba for a bedroom for relatives and they all give good results. I found John Lewis offered very competitive prices if you can catch them at the right time. They also offered 5 year guarantees included.

Even the Alba has a nice clean picture - just lacks some of the functionality.

What I would say is get the biggest you can within budget. It is surprising what you get used to and what might seem awesome at first soon seems small. Our main one is 42" and it gets viewed from 6 - 15" -best at around the 10-12 foot mark full on.

If you have the Virgin box do you need HD freeview built in?

I have been looking to get a 26" for a spare room and there are some OK looking "own brands" at Currys/Comet for sub £200 at moment so I am sure they may have bigger better available. It wouldn't be my first choice though.

  • John Gray...cheers! You'd rate the electrical-deals Samsung-even though it's a refurb (they give a 1 yr guarantee). Grizzly-cheers for the advice re: size. Might go for a 40 or 42 inch now if within budget. The freeview HD might come in handy if I move. Currently the are I'm in at Huddersfield has no/very limited reception. Would need a new aerial.
