Just got a letter fom BT offering me an exclusive deal, unlimited UK anytime calls and broadband £9.70 a month. At the moment I pay for a BT landline ( £13.90 pm ) I get a £3.75 per quarter paperless bill discount. I pay Primus for evening and weekend calls, I put a few through Bt to get caller display free, and day time calls through 18185. I use AOL for broadband with unlimited usage £17.30 a month. I never have any problems getting connected with AOL, but this offer is tempting and I could do with reducing my bills. What do you think ?

You're not assuming that £9.70/month includes line rental are you?
I'd take that offer as being for the Unlmited Anytime calls plan (currently £4.70/month) and BT Total Broadband Option 1 ONLY.
Add £13.90-£1.25 and the cost increases to £22.35 - but that's still very good value IMHO.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
No I knew that line rental was on top. It includes, BT total broadband option 1, unlimited weekend plan, a bolt on unlimited anytime plan and a home hub.Minimum term is 18 months, monthly price of £19.20 starts after month 19. I also like the sound of free wi fi access at hotspots.0

But BT Broadband Option 1 has a 10GB cap-is that sufficient for your needs? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Don't know my present usage, we have one pc and a laptop. I don't download that much though.0

It's not just the downloading it's the uploading as well. To give you an idea I am on the internet most of the time. Browsing, emailing, news etc.... I use about 40GB per month I have to watch it near the end of the month to make sure I don't go over. I use about 0.1GB per hour. That is a fairly reasonable estimate. If you are watching streaming standard definition video then triple that per hour to 0.3GB. High definition double it again to 0.6GB. Streaming audio/radio as well as browsing then double it to 0.2GB.Don't know my present usage, we have one pc and a laptop. I don't download that much though.
So using my estimates 10GB would give me about 100 hours per month or no more than 3 hours per day shared over the 2 computers you have probably only 1.5 hours per computer per day.:footie:

Thanks for that Happy, yeah that is the thing I like about AOL, I don't have to worry about usage. During weekdays we are out at work/ school, but on a night and at weekends we will use quite a lot. I put a usage monitor from Thinkbroadband on my pc today, so far I have only used 75mb in about 4 hours.0
