Why does my loo seat keep breaking?

I think modern loos are alltogether flimsier than the older type.
And they don't flush as well (I suppose I could coat the bowl with vaseline

Nah, you can get great solid loos now just the same as you always could. The flushing problem comes from the toilets which promise to be "eco-friendly" and use less water to flush.0
