Apple shops sell this drive 2TB drive for £129:

I would take the MacBook with me, buy the drive, and make sure it worked before I left the shop.

    But I'm sure it will.

If the OP's partner has a macbook pro and wants a large data storage, then a unit with just USB input is not ideal, usb2 will be so 2010.
OP my seagate 500gb has 2 usb plugs, so I assume the 2tb drive requires plenty of power, when it comes to back up drives, size isnt everything 4*500gb drives maybe more benficial than a single 2tb drive.

The drive I linked to from the Apple shop has its own power supply.

And the OP says earlier there is not a lot of data to back up, but her partner wants a big drive for media storage in future.

The Seagate GoFlex drive is not only USB powered it also has its own power supply (mains).
