My son gave me his old ipod. We only use it in the car.
On it are loads of songs I do not want.
I have made a playlist but when you plug it into our Kia it totally ignores the playlist and starts playing at record one so you have to go thru loads of stuff to get to music you want to hear.
It is full of illigal downloads so I am petrified of plugging it into the PC to try to delete the songs I don't want in case it flags this up in some way.
Questions:
Could I safely delete said music without any problems?
Or, is it best just to buy new ipod
Also why won't the playlist work in the car, do I have to buy special ipod that is compatible with car?....this is probably a stupid question but I am not familiar with ipods at all
Thanks for any help

If you plug it into your PC (iTunes), then the default behaviour is for iTunes to take over managing the content on the iPod and wipe it.0

There's plenty of Apple-specific forums out there for the detailed stuff, but the essentials are -
You normally control the music content on the iPod by using iTunes on your PC - when you connect the iPod to the PC, iTunes Synchronises the iPod to the content of the iTunes library on the PC - so if you try to Sync the iPod to an empty library it will DELETE everything on the iPod, put an empty library onto it. It's a one-way system - from the PC to the iPod.
If you want to keep some of what' son the iPod and delete specific tunes, you need a 3rd party software solution as opposed to iTunes. Some diligent googling will find you one.
Haven't a clue why your car would force the iPod to play from start to finish - are you connecting it to a dedicated iPod dock? If so, is there any clue in that maker's instruction manual?0 -
To get the music off the iPod:

That was written in 2010, but I assume the most recent version of iTunes works in a similar way.0
