replacement car key

That's where I don't want someone who can't even take care of their keys coming round to my house, so it's going to depend on how badly they want them, as opposed to how badly I don't.
You seem a particularly bloody minded individual don't you?
O.K. You spend a hundred quid on replacing keys.
What difference does it make to you, if they can't look after their keys?
Personally, I have my car key, and my other keys on seperate rings, so you don't have this silly postion of a dozen keys hanging from the ignition. (Switches have been know to fail from this cause). It's not too difficult, to pull out one key ring from your pocket, and the other gets hooked out too. When you become aware of it, you put the unwanted set back in your pocket. Could be missed occasionally, and a set drops to the floor. The noise lets you know.
You seem to want to make this into some sort of character flaw. Maybe I would rather have my flaws, than the ones you seem to display. A stroppy individual who wants to start a row with anybody they can.
I've got a hundred pounds, that says, if you ever found such keys, you would throw them in the nearest bin, rather than just leave them, or hand them in to the nearest convenient place.
And you don't want anybody who can't look after their keys coming round to your house?
How many people would rather not have you in their community?0 -
Does anyone know how to get a replacement car key without going through a main dealer. I was quoted over £100. It needs to be coded etc.
Cheers!
This will depend on the age of the car .
Modern car keys usually serve multi purposes.
My Mondeo key
1...Physically unlocks the door locks + turns in the ignition switch
2..Has inbuilt electronics to overcome the security and allows the engine to start.
3..Has inbuilt electronics to remotely lock/unlock the doors.
So the first problem is to identify exactly what systems are used in your car and key electronics.
Just getting a duplicate key cut at the local shop will only allow the key to physically unlock your doors. It won`t necessarily start the car.
Buying a similar key off Ebay with the correct electronics inside the fob will still mean the key has to be programmed .....and often you end up back at the Main Dealer or a Car Electrician/Locksmith to programme it....for a fistful of fivers !
As an example
Ford vehicles use many different types of key ...and many different types of security to start the car ...and many different types of door lock/unlocking systems so it can be a nightmare finding out the exact system in your car.
If you have a Mondeo then this site gives you an idea of the various types used and methods of programming the key.

...and my Mondeo key is yet another variation that is not listed above !
It`s worth remembering that whenever you buy a car , make sure it includes spare keys ( and the radio code !) to save any problems in the future.
Good luck !0 -
Manufacturers used to provide a separate key - I know Ford did that enabled the car to reformat blank, but cut, keys and synchronise them to the car."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

The BMW came with 5 keys: 2 Normal ones, 1 Master Key, One valet key that doesn't open the boot or glovebox (so you can leave your handgun in it securely) and a 'vanity' key which is a diddy plastic key designed for occasional use ,and I quote the handbook 'designed to fit into a small ladies purse or into a suit without spoiling the lines as a heavy key in a pocket might'.
Anyway, ensuring a car has all it's keys FTW. My record is my 1988 MR2, it had 7 keys. It's one previous owner kept losing them, getting copies cut, and then finding them all again.0 -
