limonene allergy

Can anyone help me?, I need to buy some sun cream, but all the expensive ones have limonene in them, limonene brings me out in tiny pin size blisters which get sore & unsightly.

I Am told some of the cheaper ones dont have linonene in but the cheaper ones dont protect you as much as the expensive ones, any comments please??

Its not only suncream that has this in, almost every product from shampoo to fabric softner has limonene in it, as you can imagine this is a nightmare for me.

It's not true that cheaper suncreams or anything else for that matter is necessarily a worse product. Price can have very little to do with quality or ingredients

  • If a product claims to have a particular level of spf then it will have been tested and shown to perform to that level - regardless of if it's a cheap one or an expensive brand. Some of the more expensive ones have extra 'features' like scents, non-sticky/greasy feeling, easier absorption, instant action, longer lasting etc to make them more attractive but that doesn't necessarily make them a 'better' product.

So long as you buy the right SPF for you and follow the directions for use (how much to apply, how long before sun exposure, how often to repeat application etc) you should be ok.

    Hi :)

I think the best place to ask would be our "I wanna" board where the shopping gurus hang out - so I'll move your query across for you.

    Good luck :)

I don't know of any particular product, but by EU law any product containing limonene will have it listed on the label, - usually it will be one of the last three or four items on the ingredients list. You can easily check whether an item contains limonene; the labeling law was brought in specifically for people with your kind of allergy, so use it!

Sun screens are made in huge batches in a few manufacturing units around the country. The 'cheap' ones and the expensive ones are made in the same way, in the same place, and to the same standards of UV protection. The differences are usually in the scent, the presentation/packaging and the branding. A cheap one will protect you just as well as an expensive one.
