Is leasing a car a good idea?

Looks like you could get a fabia 1.2 tsi on a 3 year deal (10k pa) 6 months upfront for around £200 a month
I'm not keen on the 6 months up front this is done to make it look a little cheaper. 3 Months up front is better.
But at the end of the day add up all you have to pay and divide by the term to give you your reall payments.0 -
You're right it does just make the monthly payments look a bit cheaper. Tends to be my preference though as for a 200ish per month lease you aren't talking huge numbers deposit wise and usually ends up a decent bit cheaper overall.
Something else I've just thought of for the op is to check what cars are actually easily available, part of the reason we cancelled the ds3 was a 5 month estimated delivery0 -
Thanks rodenal. Any particular reason for the aversion to Fiestas? Our current car is a fiesta which is why I was thinking of it but yeah will look at others. You're right it does just make the monthly payments look a bit cheaper. 6 months upfront isn't an option. We simply wouldn't be able to afford it. I also think the mrs would rather pay a potential £1400 repair bill on our current car than £1200 up front for a lease car followed by £200 a month

In fairness to the fiesta I drove it looked nice in 3 door form, I don't like the interior but that's just personal opinion but the biggest issue I had with it was that the car I drove (zetec S diesel) was painfully slow (in manual form). I was expecting it to be slowish but I honestly felt like the little fiesta had absolutely no guts (compared to similar diesel powered small cars).
If you like them there's nothing to stop you getting another, they're popular for a reason! Was just looking to show you some alternatives to have a look at too0 -
I must admit, the 53 reg fiesta we've got now hasn't got half the umph our T reg Astra estate automatic had.0

Ok, quick summary.
It's PAYG motoring but it isn't money-saving.
I'm on my 3rd lease and 2nd one in a row from Ling. Recommended.
I've had a BMW 318i/Audi A3 and now Honda Insight all for under 250/month inc VAT., non-maintenance.
Chances are you wouldn't have maintenance included in a purchased car anyway.
Watch out for a bill when returning the car, dinks etc, alloys - I've never had one as yet.
Free tax and always under warranty, never need an MOT.
Suits me down to the ground.
{I know it's not free tax but it is really ... ;-)}0 -

I just received my 2 quotes from Ling. I requested a quote for a 1.4 Fiesta Zetec 5 door Automatic with and without maintenance and both prices came through as the same, but slightly higher than Nationwide, which were about £20 per month cheaper for a higher model car.0 -
Did all the quotes include VAT.
I found that most do not include it but Ling does.
No2 to recomend ling also.
You could reduce by not having a ford..? Kind of defeats the object of choosing the car you want though..0 -
I've always been able to better the prices quoted by Ling, her prices are far from bad but there have always been better deals out there - comparing like for like, vat included, same upfront payment no maintenance / maintenance and same miles etc.0

However, it still won't help us if we need to find around £1400 to fix the car now.
Woah £1400 for a fiesta box? I might have missed something but we had two new bands put in our Mondeo box for £700. that sounds like an awful lot of wedge.
Also, I'd be tempted to buy Japanese next time and/or get into luxo barge territory. As someone else said, high miles rarely bother the decent chain driven motros. Also, they tend to be better looked after than you average Mondeo.
Example, I bought a two owner from new Merc with FSH (MOt and service every single year on the button), 18 years old, just 120k on the clock and it cost £700.
Ran it for 18 months, changed the oil in it myself and got £500 back after 20,000 miles. Can't fault it if you find the right motor.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
