Faulty MacBook Pro SuperDrive.

Hi,

I posted this in another thread but never got a response regarding it so thought I would create a new thread.

My MacBook Pro is two years old come this November. The SuperDrive (CD Rom to non Mac users) has been fussy at reading DVDs since day one. Having researched the issue on the Internet the concensus was it was quite common an that they were actually fussy. Its my own fault, I should have took it to the local crApple store but didn't. Now the SuperDrive is refusing to read any CD/DVD. The drive has only had very light use. I know things have to last a reasonable time and be fit for purpose even out with warranty. Question is, what is a reasonable amount of time?

Have you been back to your local Apple Centre and asked them to have a look? Chances are they might sort it for free.

Yeah, they confirmed it was knackered and before I got chance to say anything he then went on to say "a new SuperDrive is £95 plus labour we have one in stock but we have 30 repairs waiting, when would you like to book it in?" I'm not very well liked in my local apple store as I have issues with one of their jumped up little idiots, or geniuses as Apple prefer to call them. Firstly he called me a liar and months later because he couldn't reproduce the problem I was having in the store he refused to do anything or run any diagnostics which resulted in me having a blown speaker. When I went back I made sure he heard me telling the other genius that my speaker had blown and his head went down while he scurried off to the back room at 100mph. I used a few choice words to describe the "useless !!!!". I phoned up the next day to lodge a complaint and even the guy on the phone said "yeah, Scott isn't to most peoples taste" but when I never got a response to my complaint I called back and asked for an email address/telephone number of a head office/complaints division and the manager, who I didn't want to speak to, (she banned me from the store unless I have a genius bar appointment) came on the phone and persuaded me not to complain. I let her think she had won and went above her and complained anyway. A while later I passed Scott in the street and as he walked past I heard him mumble the words "!!!!ing grassing fat !!!!!!!". Needless to say when I enter the store now the atmosphere can be cut with a knife. So much so that in future if I have a problem I'm going to take a 4 hour bus journey to Glasgow. The people I got on with fine in my local store no longer really speak to me, I get the feeling they dislike me for grassing up one of their own.

I have to say HappyChappy, I'm not sure I like you either.

But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and waddle through the fluff in your post.

The item must last a reasonable amount of time. If over 6 months you have to prove it was faulty since purchase date, usually in the form of a independent report by a professional engineer. And if the engineer confirms it was faulty since purchase (or a fault has developed over time due to manufacturing deficiencies) you will be entitled to a repair/replacement/refund(partial) and a refund of the engineers report.

You could bypass the whole problem and get yourself a USB external DVD drive?

I'll bet any money there isn't an independent engineer in Aberdeen and I'll have to send my MacBook Pro away for days on end. :(

Something else to carry and a decent one would cost much as the new apple part.
