Extended Warranty Repair Timescale

Hi
Can anyone give me some advise regarding extended warranty repairs. I booked a laptop in for repair with comet using the extended warranty that a paid £100 for due to the screen being broken (Accidental Damage).
To cut a long story short due to an error by the store the laptop was kept in the store for 4 weeks before being sent for repair.
During this 4 weeks I called Comet customer services 6 times and each time I was told a would get a call back with an update. Not once did they call back finally I emailed Comets managing directors office finally they arranged for the Laptop to be collected from the store and I've been told the repair will be completed within 10 days and had an apology for the delay. They state they will not offer any form of compensation because it's an extended warranty issue.
Are there any legal guideline regarding time scales for extended warranty repairs ?

Not really. Most warranty contracts state they aim to complete the repair within x days, although no guarantees. Some more expensive warranty packages guarantee the repair will be ready within so many days, however this would be from the day they receive it and once the repair has been undertaken they have met their targets -- even if they haven't dispatched it back to you yet.
There is a piece of legislation pointed out by another member recently (can't remember the details though.. maybe the member will see this and reply............) that states contracts must be fulfilled within 30 days (or 28 maybe?) unless agreed prior to forming the contract -- if this doesn't happen it can be cancelled without penalty -- only problem being you wouldn't get your repair sorted and would be in the same position as you are now.
All in all I don't think you can do anything about it other than write enough complaints they get sick of you and offer some form of goodwill gesture.0
