As one of the over 60's who go cavorting on my jollies with my Bus Pass, I'd like to know why I should contribute to educating your kids, or paying towards your benefits, or paying towards your future pension, or subsiding your train fares, or paying taxes to keep your council tax down, or many of the others things that MY TAXES go towards on YOUR behalf.

And what about the over 60's who havn't contributed to the system such as imigrants and people who have just turned 60 who have never worked in their lives but also get the same concession as you?

IMHO, concessionary travel should be available for serving armed forces personel or anyone retired who has seen active service (irrespective of age), anyone over 60 who has less than £10,000 in savings, on low income and providing that they have been a UK resident for at least 20 years (so that they have paid their taxes ect to the state), anyone who is disabled and are therefore on low income and that they have been a UK resident for at least 10 years.

Kind of shot yourself in the foot there.

So what about them? That's not me. I worked from leaving school at 16 until three months after my 60th birthday when I took early retirement. And I paid one hell of a lot of income tax and National Insurance, so I think a paltry Bus pass is the least I can expect.

As for immigrants, I'd do to them what most sensible people would also do, and those turned 60 who've never worked in their lives should be made to work until they're 100, or even longer before they get a penny more.

Because someone else paid to educate you, paid you benefits, will pay for your future pension etc etc.

Yes, my Mum and Dad paid for my education with their taxes. My own income tax and national insurance have paid for my benefits - what little I've ever had, and my pension has well and truly been paid for by me and me alone.

Unless your parents were super earners it it unlikely that they will have made a net contribution to your education solely through their taxes. And that's before you factor other things in like Doctors and the Health Service, Defence etc.

What is more likely is that thousands of residents of the areas you were educated in each paid a small amount towards your education through their council taxes.

I notice you forgot to high-light the 'on low income and providing that they have been a UK resident for at least 20 years (so that they have paid their taxes ect to the state)' bit, so not really.

Your missing my point, why should they get the same concession as you when they havn't earned it like others like yourself, have?

I hope you are consistent enough to include the disabled in that somewhat extreme view.

    Why do you hope that?
