Sky Go ... Can Someone Please Explain?

Hopefully this is a simple question complete with a simple answer.

As I understand it, Sky Go is free to Home Subscribers who are allowed to register two devices.

So what is there to stop someone registering a laptop on a relatives/friends Sky account as long as the relative/friend has not registered two devices and is OK with that?

If there is no issue with the above, I assume once the laptop is registered, the laptop user can watch whatever they want as long as the Sky subscriber is subscribed to that channel?

By that i mean that the laptop user does not have to watch what the Home Subscriber is watching?

:)

You do have to log in to the service with your mysky username and password.

The third party would then have complete access to your account.
If thats not a problem then you are good to go.

their technically isn't anything stopping you from you registering a device on someone's service with their permission,
but I think that breaks SKY's T&C's. (don't know not read the T&C's regarding this service.

I think SKY would notice a constant connection coming from a non "sky service" registered Broadband account. After a letter or 2, They might suspend their SKY-Go or even the whole SKY service to your relative for breaking the T&C's of their contract.

  • Sky Go is a on demand service similar to iplayer, itvplayer and 4od among others.
It is available to sky subscribers who have sky multi room or sky broadband on top of their normal package.
You are allowed 2 devices (it use to be 4 and an xbox :@) to watch certain live channels or shows already broadcast on demand at any time.
The person watching on sky Go doesn't have to watch what the main sky box is watching.

In relation to giving the account to a friend, I would say sky would frown on that. A family relative would be better, and someone living at the address the main account is registered to is best. Just make sure you set-up their own user account otherwise they can easily get onto your sky account online.

    Thanks for the replies.

The scenario would be a nephew away at Uni using the Uncles Sky account.

Based on what's been said, I guess it is a case of suck it and see. :)
