Has BT entirely lost the plot? Not only do they not match the best deals for phone, broadband ands calls but now they have the cheek to raise the line rental again!
Has any one done research as to the cost of maintaining copper wire lines (old technology) ? Apart from phone exchange maintenance and renewal there has been no BT interference with my copper wire lines since the house was built over 30 yrs.ago.
When a Mrs Thatcher encouraged us all to buy shares in private utilities BT traded at over £15 a share - now ? £3 or thereabouts. They lost most by selling off O2! They tell me there is a lot of redundancy in copper wire - unused of course - they could improve my broadband speed for one and that might even entice me back but I doubt it. They have over the years been involved with a number of loss making ventures including the conversion of paper patient notes to paperless electronic records (EPR).
They are beginning to make the cheaper company packages seem excessive and unless they can make deals with these companies over line rental, punters will become disillusioned. Will they ever wake up?

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I have a talktalk package with 24/7 free calls - with some exceptions. As I need that and broadband, BT along with others does not cater for my needs, I had hoped as a one time market leader that BT would see the light.
My bills are small usually less then £30 but with a mobile phone as well, I regularly break the £50 barrier. My wife also has a mobile and I have slowly reduced her usage from £150+ per month to less then £50! And I am retired! Her state pension would not support those outgoings.

From 8th September, calls to 118453 will cost £1.69 per call, plus £1.69 per minute.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
