Council Tax Rebanding SUCCESS stories

Local Borough Council: Hertsmere
Council Tax Band Before: B
Council Tax Band After: A
Amount refunded (estimated): £1500
Annual saving going forward: £150
It has taken some time and a number of us in identical flats all contacted the VOA. They have eventually altered our banding from B to A. It would have been quite easy to give up because our flats are right of the cusp of A to B.
If you check the selling price of one property, then it took us into the B band - if you check another selling price of another one, it took us into the A band.
Thanks to Martin for putting me onto this all those months ago.
One question to others who have gone through this and won - how quickly does the refund cheque come through? Or, if you pay by 10 monthly direct debits, do they refund it direct to my bank account? The letter from the VOA was dated 17 March.
Thanks.¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?
Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.0 -

Hi sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I have been trying to get rebanded for years,my council wont except its wrong, I have been in my house since 1994, value then was £51.950, my next next door neighbour and other houses in the area are in band B, they have put me in band C, I used to contact them complaining all the time, the last time I did this they said they would take me to court if I keep contacting them, I just cant understand why my house should be in band C, I have nothing extra on my house, in fact my neighbour has a brick garage I dont, other homes in my street are in bands A & B, there are a couple in band C they are detached, (mine is a semi ) I have contacted them again waiting a reply, I come under the Crewe & Nantwich council,
thanks for reading my thread just having a moan, just have to put up with them robbing me blind I expect.0 -
Hi Antrouser
Please see my earlier posts and claim the interset due to you. I got £583 back on a similar amount to yours so it is well worth doing.
All the best

we had the letter at the start of last week - then 3 days later paperwork going back over the years to show what we should have paid, 2 days later the cheque....so hopefully yours will be with you shortly.0 -
High Peak Borough Council
Original Band F
New Band E
Refund £3097.47
Annual saving £313.34
One letter was all it took to get local Valuation Office to lower the band going back to 1991. Simply follow the links to get valuations and house references. Luckily next door neighbour recently sold their house so I had a really accurate current valuation.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Just thought I'd let people know that as a result of this info I too have challenged my council tax band successfully moving from a Band E to D!
I'm a single person so I receive a 25% discount anyway but this will still saved me over £200 a year and a rebate of nearly £700 for the 3 years or so I've lived in my house.
Quick question though...Instead of sending me a cheque the council has sent me a new bill for the 2008 tax year and deducted the £700. Do i have a right to ask for a the rebate as cash (Cheque) instead of a reduced bill as I'd rather have this money which I have overpaid sat in an ISA for the next 10 months earning me interest.
Thanks

Quick update to my post above.
Rang the council who said I could have the rebate up front and would adjust my bill accordingly so it all worked out without any hassle.0 -
Hi
Does anybody know if you are able to claim for a property that you have move out of.
For example I moved out of a house last year of which I lived in for 7 years. I have discovered since moving out that during the whole of the seven years I was in the wrong band.0
