can anyone tell me where i can find actual sale prices for 1009-1991 as everytime i send off my request they tell me i need to send actual sale prices but after investigating iv found out they are infact the only ones who hold this information..been going on since dec 10.

There is no website or archive where the general public can access 1991 property prices.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

The Assessor is contacting the Council to advise of the rebanding and I am to get a refund and this is to be backdated to July 1994!!

Thanks again to this website I have managed to get somewhere with an authority!!!

    WEY HEY!!!!!!!
    Local Borough Council: selby
    Council Tax Band Before: C
    Council Tax Band After: A
    Amount refunded: £2036
    Annual saving going forward: >£300

easy peasy ! simply followed the links to check out my neighbours bandings. luckily, i feel, all the nearby houses are various sizes so there was a lot of various bandings. it was done over the telephone and i was asked what made me beleive i should have a lower tax band level and what i was comparing it to in a lower band rather than comparing larger houses with the same banding as i was in, i was asked a few questions about my house, reception and bedrooms, garden parking etc and was told i would be written to.

6 weeks later i was informed i was being rebanded to an A and my local coucil would be in touch within several weeks. a couple of days later i had a fone call from selby council asking how i wanted my £2036 refunding !

chuffed to bits, i was expecting to come down from a C to a B, few hundred quid refund and this years tax about £10 a month less, instead £2k refund and my council tax reduced by £30+ per month.
    marvelous !!

    Local Borough Council: Hyndburn
    Council Tax Band Before: B
    Council Tax Band After: A
    Amount refunded: Approx £1600 (awaiting)
Annual saving going forward: Approx £200

Checking whether we were eligible was so easy thanks to Martin.
It took me no more than 5 mins to do the check.
There are various homes on our road, but our next door neighbours is virtually the same and they're in band A.
The valuation made of the property in 1991 was also wrong.
Needless to say I got quite excited at this point :j
I rang the VOA and explained that I thought we had a case and they sent me an application form to fill in explaining the reasons why we should be rebanded.
We have been there for 8 years paying approx £200 per year too much, so well worth the little effort that it took
I rang them after 4 weeks as I hadn't heard anything and within a week I received a letter confirming that we were indeed in the wrong band.
I couldn't stop dancing around. The kids thought I'd gone mad.
After contacting the Council to find out what happens next with regard to a rebate, they explained that if I didn't appeal against the decision within 4 weeks, then they would send a cheque. They also receive a letter from VOA
I think I would be pretty daft to appeal don't you? Lol
    Thanks Martin :money:You're a Star :T

Followed the very clear and simple instructions on this website. Wrote to VOA in early April, received acknowledgement by return and notice of rebanding four weeks later. Two weeks after that have received payment of refund from council into my bank account. My property is a modern infill in a road of large Edwardian properties - mine had been banded G as had these very much larger houses. Getting rebanded was very straightforward - required only one email from me to VOA and everything went forward without any need for me to chase or any revaluation visits etc.:T

four more VOA offices closing next year Alnwick and bedford in march, derby and harrogate in february along with aylesbury and kidderminster. grimsby and swindon in january and tunbridge wells closes this december. Processing of reviews might take a bit longer as the other council areas will be taken on by the remaining offices. There will probably be more closures annouced next year too!

Yey hey - £4,500 refunded, and saved new neighbours money! YIPPEEE!
    Local Borough Council: Warwickshire
    Council Tax Band Before: G
    Council Tax Band After: F
    Amount refunded: £4500
    Annual saving going forward: £260

Whilst checking our council tax banding I noticed that our neighbours were in band G, while we were in band F. Our house is larger than theirs and I knew ours was correct, as we were rebanded when we moved in 7 years ago.

Our old neighbours moved recently, and we told the new neighbours to get rebanded, which they did and were downgraded to band F the same as us.
We heard the other day from our old neighbour, who owned the house from 1991 to earlier this year, that they got an AUTOMATIC rebate for the last 20 years, of around £4500. They were not expecting it, as I had not mentioned to them that I thought they were due a rebate - due to illness they had enough on their plate, and I was going to mention it if our new neighbours got the downgrade, but it happened automatically, which is fantastic!!!

So not only are we in our old neighbours good books, we have saved our new neigbours over £250 a year, so everyone wins (except us, as we have to stay in the same band F!!!!) Thanks Money expert for the links - you made checking easy. Shame we saved the neighbours and not ourselves, but this was the next best thing!
