Speaking from personal experience, children appreciate parents spending time with them and having them close to them, well and happy.

Trust me, your children may complain possibly about the lack of new clothes or latest game but in years to come, what they will remember more will be the time you spent together.

:grouphug: you will be fine xx

    I agree with Moozie.

When I lost my job, things were extremely tight financially to say the least.

I had a chance to return to my job but my children begged me not to. When I asked why, they said that I am a much nicer mummy now I'm not stressed out all the time. They would rather have that, knowing that we wouldnt have much money than me going back to being a stress head.

Kids arent as bothered about 'stuff' as people think. Top of my DS's christmas list was a happy family time.

I now work part time at their school, and they are happier than ever, because we get to see more of each other.

Please dont think that once the DMP starts, you wont have any money. We have more money now than we've ever had because we were using credit to live on before.

Thanks that does help. I gues I will have to go onto a DMP - I just wanted to see if there as any other way first, but unless a job falls out the sky for me I doubt it! And even if it does we will lose the WFTC so have to factor that all in.
    What a nightmare!

You won't lose it all. You'll lose so much for each £ you earn.

Have a look on https://www.entitledto.co.uk and play around with different figures. If you do go back to work you'll have expenses that you don't have now such as your petrol.

I know that this won't help you right now, but have you joined the various survey and cash back sites?
There are several survey sites, that pay you either in vouchers (once you have enough points), or cash. It takes a bit of time to do them, but you can build up a pot say towards next christmas, or get vouchers for children's clothes shops for example. An example of this is https://www.lightspeed.com.

Then there are cash back sites, that pay you money for things you would buy anyway. For example https://www.quidco.com. Here you get a product or service via a link from their site, and you get paid cash back on the transaction. There are also click throughs you can do where you can get 10p for doing a search on kelkoo or similar.

It would provide you with a bit more income in the long run
    hope this helps

Hiya - yes, I'm a member of loads - yougov, testandvote, pigsback, ipoints, various other survey sites, just joined the mystery shopper one recommended on here, I find them quite useful for vouchers and things :)
  • If I were you I would break my neck to avoid the DMP. in 1-2 years when things are better and you have reduced your debt, you will be able to get cheap 0% cc again and will be able to remortgage at a good APR%.

Hiya - Kays is £160 but we won't manage it, meaning we will get late charges, we cannot make the minimum payments on everything sadly.
The mortgage is difficult - we were in arrears - our real payment should be £571, so we are paying off at an extra £50 a month, I know we won't get a holiday from it.
If we keep trying to get by, I worry that when the loan goes, interest will have made out debts bigger and we will not get much of a benefit from the extra £170?

Maybe the solution is right here.

You are obviosulty in a spot. Have you totted up all the charges from bouncing your accounts and started claiming them back.

this should wipe off a fair amount of debt, as every single charge for late payment and bounced cheques / dds and going overlimit can be claimed back, from the last 6 years.

    Did you know this?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My opinion based on reading this thread is that you should try to squeeze through and avoid the DMP.
    Happy chappy
