But being the eternal optimist that I am (?!) I am still grateful for the impact that Al Gore has had in the US and beyond with his tour and films... even if it is a bandwagon thing, although allegedly (unless I'm just buying into his greenwash!) it's an issue he's been involved in for years, event hough admittedly it was never something he was very vocal about...!
Someone who gets up and gives a speech at the Oscar ceremony and states
"We have a long way to go but all of us can do something in our own lives to make a difference."
and, acts as he does, is discredited.
If it has been an issue he has been involved in for years, could he not have done 'something' earlier?0 -
Have been reading this thread and others related for a while now.
Some great points raised, particularly about Al Gore and his sudden conversion to greenness!!
He may have been better doing something useful when he was second most powerful man in the entire world 1992-2000, a period when the US did next to **** all about reducing it's enormous carbon footprint!
Shame he did nothing during those years, he might have proved quite useful then!!:rotfl:It's not a light at the end of the tunnel, it's a man with a torch and more jobs
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
Al Gore clearly sees nice 'Green' path leading to the White House and becoming the most powerful man ........0 -
Whatever the validity(or not) of his campaign, he is just a politician who has cynically jumped on the 'Green' bandwaggon to further his political aims.[/QUOTE]
I watched An Inconvenient Truth last night (£4.99 from Blah DVD incidentally) and Al Gore doesn't just lecture. The film explains a bit about how he got into "Environmental Thinking" when he was at College in the 60s and that while he was a senator/Congressman etc he was involved in environmental issues then, even trying to get the US to sign up to the KYoto agreement. He did not come across as someone who has "jumped on the bandwagon".0 -
A quick point in keeping with the op - once I had seen my copy I passed it on to my parents. I asked them to watch it, and then pass it on, etc. Perhaps others on this board with viewed copies might be interested in doing the same - it could be your bit towards getting the message out there...0

What if it is the wrong message?
Perhaps you should also send them a tape of the Channel 4 program as well and confuse them as much as the rest of us.
The point being that both present propaganda, with completely different conclusions, and none of us know who is right on this issue.
Continual repeating of either message isn't proof.
Billions of people believe Jesus was the son of God and repeat their message endlessly. Billions believe that is not correct and endlessly repeat their message.0 -
once again its "make your mind up time"
ill go with the thinking that means we dont get taxed to death over something that may well turn out to be bull****0 -

As Mandy Rice Davies famously said "he would say that, wouldn't he"
Its like saying Tony Blair - currently pushing through the Trident Nuclear Weapons system, and nuclear power stations - has always been a fan of Nuclear power; even when he was a member of CND! (I say that not as a criticism)
If you look on the web, apparently people have examined all Al Gore's speeches during both presidential campaigns looking for references to environmental issues. Guess how many they found?
If he was that keen on environmental issues why has his house(s) used 20 time the national average for Gas/electricity?0
