Please can somebody help me

Hi

I have a Packard Bell I-Media S 1839, which was on Windows XP Media Centre 2005

I have had to do a full reinstall due to a VERY nasty malware that rendered the computer unusable.

However, I have managed to format the computer, but when I go through setup I am greeted with a message saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

This is a brand new hard drive just arrived today and works fine on another system and has tested OK. I am led to believe it is because I don't have the storage drivers?

The motherboard is gigabyte ga-8i945pm-rh

If anybody can offer any assistance it'd be most appreciated

Thanks

  • Check the cabling if possible try another sata/esata port on the motherboard.

Does the pc just have one drive?.

As mentioned above, check all cables are correctly connected. However, are you using the Packard Bell Windows XP install media, or generic Windows XP install media? If the later, it may well be that the Windows setup routine doesn't have the correct drivers for your Packard Bell machine. You may need to obtain specific Packard Bell HDD controller drivers for the Windows XP setup routine to work.

When the setup routine runs, you will see that there is an option to load 3rd party drivers, there is a prompt to press F6 to do so. It is at this stage you would direct the setup routine to the Packard Bell HDD controller drivers.

  • try pressing 'del' to enter setup after booting, you should be able to check if your HDD is listed there.
  • This is what I would do. Can I assume that your new hard disc is a SATA and you will only be using this one disc? Considering the age of the machine I would fit a new CMOS battery - removing it and leaving it undisturbed for 10 minutes before inserting the new battery will put the BIOS back to factory settings. Connect up your new drive and switch on the machine and press delete to enter set-up. See if your new drive can be seen now. If so just set the date and time in the BIOS, press F10 and exit. You are now ready to load the operating system.
  • I should of mentioned that the drive is detected in the BIOS. SO I think it's an issue that I don't have the hdd drivers, but where can I find them?

I will pay £5 to the first person who can help me sort this

Glad to hear it, was it a simple driver issue?

"HDD not bootable" will not solve a HDD not detected issue.

You may find that if you set the SATA mode from AHCI to "Compatible" or "IDE" that it will solve the problem as XP setup has native IDE support but not AHCI other than for a very small subset of controllers.
