Hi i was after some advice for my sister.
Her husband has a full time job and she is just over 36 weeks pregnant with her first baby(she recieves carers for looking after her MIL). Now her husband had a bad accident on tuesday night and was taken to hospital, he's had surgery on his leg and will be in hospital for another week, followed by physio when he gets out.
The doctors have told him that he won't be able to work for 3 months at least and even then he would need to have an easier job (he bones beef in a factory and has a very heavy job so lots of weight on his legs and back).
Now my sister has been up twice a day since he has been in but there money will run out. His work have said he will be put on sick pay but that and her carers will just about cover their rent. Her husband is worried sick about baby coming, he'll have little motability and of course how will they survive. My sisters baby is breech at the minute and it looks likely that she will need a c-section.
So far i have lifted a HB form for her and booked an appointment for her to be assessed for IS (next thursday). Her oil heating doesn't work in the house and the fire blows smoke out from the side, she has contacted her landlord (private) but he hasn't come out yet. She will be able to afford the rent next week as her husband has taken the rest of this week as holidays but after that she'll have very little.
Any help or advice would be great. The whole family has rallied round and we'll make sure she has enough to keep her going until something comes through but we're not sure of what she would be entitled to and how long it would take for a claim to go through.

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

They need to claim local housing allowance since they are in private rent and council tax benefit. If she doesn't get Income support already due to her being a carer she will only get the carer premium of £31 oddish per week.
Do they get working tax credits already?
Do you know roughly how much sick pay he will get?
At this moment in time they won't be able to claim DLA either for him.I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -

Do you know roughly how much sick pay he will get? He thinks about £95 but the benefit office think it's £70 something.

Also make sure she gets the forms for Tax Credits and Child Benefit in asap after the baby is born.0

Sick pay can be company sick pay for x amounts of weeks or months which was why I was asking the amount, then there is statutory sick pay which is £81.60 per week.

I do think with things being pretty dire the sooner they get their rent (LHA) sorted out the better.

Could she ring for the forms now or does she have to wait until baby is born?cosmic-dust wrote: »Sick pay can be company sick pay for x amounts of weeks or months which was why I was asking the amount, then there is statutory sick pay which is £81.60 per week.

I'll find out which kind of sick pay is it. I lifted the form for her yesterday and i'll be heading down tonight, i might get the landlord over too and he can fill in his part.
