OKI v Lexmark Printers

We need a new office printer and would appreciate your thoughts
(1)must be colour
(2) must do duplex (both side) scanning/copying/printing.
(3)Budget £500 max.
(4)Reasonably priced consumables

we have narrowed to the Lexmark X544dn or the OKI mc561dn

any comments gratefully received

Lexmark introduced a firmware upgrade for existing printers which prevented the use of compatible inks etc. This may well apply to their new models

Yes they did and are under investigation by the OFT over it, HP do it as well, machines using 364 cartridges are affected, worth noting that one of our customers accepted the Lexmark firmware update and got locked out of using compatibles, he played hell with Lexmark over it and they reversed the update. Please bear in mind, these firmware updates come under the disguise of improving print quality, they do not mention locking you into buying OEM cartridges.

Sorry to go off topic a little.

Worth mentioning, i've just done some checks and can't find any compatible toners for either machine, this means they will be expensive to run, there may be a chance that reman/compatibles will be available sometime in the future if they are new models, may be worth looking at the previous models as they may be cheaper and use compatibles.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
