When is a closed account really closed?

Hi
Just wondered if someone could answer me the question of when is a closed account really closed?? I closed my account with La Redoute last November and in May this year it was reopened by them when some policy by 08000 (?????) renewed. They agree they closed the account but when this policy renewed the account then became active. I've never used the policy or even remember agreeing to it. They now want to take me to court because I'm refusing to pay. So when is an account actually closed?? I believed if an account was closed it was closed, end of.

Having forgotten about this, you close the account that it is charged to.
Surely it doesn't really matter whether they re-open an old account or open a new account to put the 'new purchase' in.
You owe the money, however they decide to account for it, don't you?0 -

Thanks bod, your advice was really helpful, as you might have noticed I got more responses from adding a new thread but thanks for your support anyway0

To be honest, the response you got was basically the same as what you got in your other thread.0

I don't have a problem paying for a service I use or at least agreed to in the first place. My point is if the account is closed, its closed isn't it? I joined these forums for help and support0

Well thanks bod, go patronise someone else now please.0

"My point is if the account is closed, its closed isn't it?"
Clearly not... as explained above.
It has nothing to do withyour account being closed.
Your problem is that you have set up this insurance thing and now no longer want to pay for it.
You may well have closed your account, but it appears that you did not cancel this insurance product.
Whether you have used it or not, doesn't matter, does it?0 -
Fair enough. (User added to Ignore list).0

It sounds like you have at some point signed a continuous payment authority in which case the company are within their rights to reopen your account.
Your argument is with the 08000 people as they should inform you about the renewal payment.
Edit to add that on the 08000 site is the followingFour weeks before your policy is due to expire we will contact you to remind you that, unless we hear from you, your policy will be automatically renewed. You will therefore only need to contact us if you wish to cancel your policy. There is however a 14 day cooling off period in which you may cancel your policy after it is automatically renewed.
