Minor(ish) roof repairs - DIY or professionals?

Hi. I'm considering some DIY work on my roof, just wonder what people's views are on doing this type of work yourself. The roof tiles are quite old and some perished in the last cold snap (layers of tile separating and falling off). There are also some broken ridge tiles and theres quite a lot of moss up there, which I want removed and the tiles cleaned up. I'm sure I can do most of this mysef, and am fairly comfortable up ladders, but am wondering if it's worth risking life and limb to save money! There's a lot of roof as it's a bungalow. I'm guessing getting the professionals in would probably cost a few thousand versus my roof ladder hire and acrobatics. Is it fairly easy, or should I take the costlier, but safer route?! Have found a local company with good Checkatrade reviews, so may just enquire!

a roof ladder will cost you about 10 quid per day hire.
a roof ladder hook costs about 30 quid from wickes. converts your ladder into a roof ladder.Get some gorm.0 -
If you see 20 tiles that need replacing from ground level you can bet that by the time you've finished you'll have replaced 60. Ridge tiles need lifting and rebedding. Your right - its a lot of roof on a bungalow too. Get some quotes (at least three for comparison) and show the guy that turns up unannounced at your door saying "see you've got a few tiles broken mate want me to fix it for yer?" a firmly closed door. Then you can assess if its something you want to tackle yourself.
