salad cream makes a much tastier coleslaw. I have got to say that in my house there is no way it would last as long as a week, some people say chips with everything, I say coleslaw with everything:rotfl:0

I'd like to make a low calorie coleslaw. Does anyone have a recipe using fat free yogurt? Thought perhaps Total's grrek style fat free yogurt might be suitableWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

would putting low calorie dressing in it not work?:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0

vivw you could use a half and half blend of yogurt and low fat mayo to make the dressing for the coleslaw.
astonsmummy - the beauty of hm coleslaw is that it's so easy to put together that you don't need to make it up too long in advance; it will begin to lose some of the vital vitamins from the veg as soon as you've begun cutting them anyway. Best made and eaten fresh but at a push it'll be ok the next day. Personally, I wouldn't want to eat coleslaw that is a week or more old from the fridge.
You could add a handful of sultana's to make it more interesting, grated apple, a teaspoon of curry powder/paste to your dressing to spice it up, a handful of chopped nuts, sprouting seeds (if you grow them) so I see no reason why you can't go half and half with your salad cream and mayo dressing. Put your personal stamp on it ... my hm coleslaw is famous! (well, at least my dd thinks soshe adores it!)

Low calorie mayo would work but I'm trying to make it as fat tree as possible....need to lose a lot of weightWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

Could you not prepare the veg and mix coleslaw as you need it? Cabbage keeps for ages and if you have a food processor it would be quick enough to do a couple of carrots and some onion.
Slightly off thread, but could you freeze homemade mayonnaise? I much prefer homemade but its a bit of a pain to do and I would be making too much. (Even though DS2 is a coleslaw with everything boy!)I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

I must admit that I am a bit of a spendrift but a quick look through my bank statements yesterday and I have now vowed to tighten my purse strings and try out some new things to try and cut back a bit.
Problem was, I didn't know where to start so I spent last night and most of today going through the various posts on here.
I found a wealth of ideas and I now have a HM cheese and potato pie bubbling away in the oven. I even smashed up some garlic croutons that were lying around to make a crunchy topping!!
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as I know I'm only take small steps at the moment.
One thing I am interested in is HM coleslaw but how do you store it? And how long will it keep?
Thats it for now...
Thanks again everyone...
