It's shiny so going to be tricky for paint to cling on!
If that means silk you either need a coat of undercaot (not waterbased) or softsheen first before using matt. Softsheen can go straight on after prep and so can silk.

One Coat is another triumph of marketing hype over practicality and usefulness.

if any of the one coat paints were any good , decorators would use them all the time , i've yet to meet one who does , the one coat gloss isn't too bad .... if you undercoat first , which er... makes it 2 coat2

I nearly always use one-coat paint; my favourite always used to be Magicote but that was discontinued years ago.

It always covers well but there is a different technique for applying it, you need to load it on thickly and not 'work' it too much. Mind you, that does mean you have to watch for drips afterward more than usual. But it gives an excellent finish.

My old father was scandalised at the price I paid for Magicote. He told me he'd just painted his hallway with some great cheap paint he'd found and he'd paid way less than half what I had. Later my mother confessed that he had applied six coats before it covered the previous paint!

one coat gloss is a nightmare as when you come to redec if you're not careful it flakes off as it doesn't really key to the surface ..... in otherwords it needs an undercoat

In my experience, one coat can be 'claggy' to put on and nearly always needs more than one coat.
Good point about professional decorators not using it!
