18185 ?

I've just negotiated a better deal with BT for my phone and broadband, but I only have the free evening and weekend calls. I saw the recommendation in the MSE newsletter about 18185 for cheaper daytime calls, so tried to register with them this morning, but the online form keeps disappearing before I've finished entering my personal details, except for the top "title" line, and the "next" and "back" buttons don't do anything. I've tried a dozen times with the same result. I tried ringing the only contact number I could find, but that's only for if you're already registered - You just get a recorded message telling you to register online. And of course there doesn't seem to be an e-mail address other than a "donotreply" one, and the "contact customer services" link just gives you a list of FAQ's and nothing else. I'm rapidly going off the idea, but would like the option of cheaper daytime calls if at all possible. Can anyone advise ?
Thanks very much

Which browser are you using? If it's not IE, try using that (I have Firefox set to automatically change to IE whenever I access 18185's sites).
I have just tried registering again and had no difficulty completing the name and address page.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Ok, thanks. I do use Firefox. I'll give IE a try.0

Worked fine with IE. Thanks for that - good tip for any future similar problems. By the way, ( this is probably contained within those FAQ's, but I hate plowing through anything like that ) Do you have to use the dialling code for a local area call, or just 18185 and then the six digit number as you would if going through BT ?
Thanks again

That means I have to dial 16 digits instead of 6 for a local call - but the saving makes it worth it (and my Orchid is programmed to do the dialling anyway).
BTW, once you know your account number, the easiest way to access your 18185 account (online call logs and invoices) is via the below link. If you set your Firefox browser to 'Always view this page in IE' you'll save yourself that hassle.

Another good tip. Thanks for your help.0

Just for info - some sites don't work properly with Firefox 4,5 or 6 because of issues with 3rd party cookies - Firefox does not allow them by default - it certainly screws up online purchases if the site requires Verified by Visa or Mastercard secure code!0

So glad I searched the forums for 18185 as this is just the help I needed, when trying to register with 18185 last night/today was getting the same problems Rhylbloke was having and yes I use Firefox. Am desperate to pay off my debts that seem to be swallowing me at the moment so toying with, following Martins advice, to change from BT to Primus/Plusnet. Seems on paper I would pay £15.36 per month rather than 31.70 with BT which for me is a huge difference. Managed to save a chunk of money by shopping around for contents insurance yesterday, just want to cut my home/broadband bill and find a better mobile deal next.
Sorry, just realised I may be wandering of course - blame it on my newness if I've annoyed anyone, will try to keep to the point next time!0
