I got a mortgage and have just bought a 3 bed semi detached house, with my partner. Admittedly I am not in London I'm in the midlands. And I also hate people who r propped up by parents! Not everyone uses them.

We pay 1000 in rent and bills each month but we were also saving £500 a month. I literally collect the keys in 2 hours!

PLUS although it's a nice house in an ok area, it's so far from my daughter's school we'd either need to get a bus or change schools.

If your daughter is at school, why can't your partner work?

    1 income,

    expensive area,

constantly using the overdraft and credit card to keep afloat but paying it off every month...

All reasons that you would not get a mortgage at the current time.

Erm not everyone has help from parents!! I was renting and have just done it! Took a while and missed out on lots of things but it was worth it and I was determined!

    Quite!

The bank of mum and dad shouldn't be an option.
Parents often mean well but interfering financially is silly.

Am not sure helping your hard working children with a deposit is interfering really unless the word has another meaning apart from interfering.

Hard working children should stand on their own feet financially. They should have encouragement to save but not the cash!

If you can't save a deposit on your own it's because house prices are too high. Giving/gifting deposits just reinforces the fact house prices are too high.

If all the wannabe ftv said "ok we can't afford to buy so we won't take part in these STUPID schemes, we won't borrow money or get it gifted" then house prices would have fallen a lot more already.

Some parents are only in the position to give financially because they can extract the cash from their own homes. This makes NO sense whatsoever.

In terms of money saving - the idea of borrowing more money to buy a house is completely silly.

What % of people buying in the last 2 years have done so purely because they have bought into a silly scheme (that props prices up) or because they have borrowed off m&d (that props prices up)

The generation that rioted (for the most part) have perhaps seen that they can aspire to buy 1% of a property at most. One could almost forgive them for feeling without hope.

Sorry - thought someone else's post was yours.

Then you'll probably have to give up the idea of buying a property.

I'm sorry but you just can't have it all.

Can I please have a house that's not mouldy? with some insulation and windows that don't whistle in the wind? can I please have a house where the person who owns it actually does something to maintain the place and doesn't demand exthortionate amounts of money for a place he's basically ignoring? somewhere where PERHAPS we'd not have to fight tooth and nail and threaten legal action if something safety critical goes wrong? perhaps even somewhere we couldn't be chucked out of with a couple of month's notice if we happen to annoy the landlord? maybe? please?

    Any reason you can't move?

You're already on the council list. Where you live in the meantime is surely your choice?
