Faulty Clarks shoes

My baby boy's first shoes are not fit for purpose (fault in the heel), so I took them back to clarks, expecting them to swap these for a different pair.
But I had bought them in the sale, half price £11. I took them back without the receipt, can't find it, probably didn't expect to have to return them as they had been worn. Lady in Clarks informs me she can only refund the latest selling price - computer says £6 (I defy anyone to find a £6 pair of shoes in clarks).
My baby needs shoes. Is the £6 all I am entitled to?
Thanks

Without a receipt then yes you will only get the last price they sold for.

  • How did you pay? I believe you only need proof of payment, not the official receipt, so you could show them your credit card bill.

A credit card statement possibly unlikely for £11 only proves somehing was purchased not what it was.

  • Although a credit card/bank statement wouldnt show what was bought, most large retailers would, from the statment be able to locate the transaction on their system (by card number, transaction time etc)-if they want to be helpful enough that is!!
If it was just a fault with that particular pair of shoes, would they help you locate another pair in the same size and just swap them?? Unfortuntley, though, unless you have your receipt or another proof or purchase, then yes, you are only entitled to the £6-otherwise how can you prove you paid £11 for them and not £6?? (not saying you didnt pay £11 but from their point of view-otherwise they'd get everyone trying it on!) and I have seen shoes in clarks for £6 at the end of the sale (actually i've seen some for £4 before at the end of the sale-unfortunatley they were little baby cruisers not massive size 1 1/2 my ds 1 needs!!)
    Hope you get something sorted!
  • I returned a pair of unsuitable (unworn) shoes to clark without a receipt, I paid £55.00 for them, they too had been reduced in the sale, the sales assistant asked me what date I had purchased them and how much I had paid. She then went on to till which lists the varying prices and checked on the dates. She was happy to give me a credit note for the amount I had purchased them for and not the £25.00 they had been reduced to.

I'm not sure if proof of payment and proof of purchase are the same things. I was going to get a bank statement, showing that £55.00 had been paid to Clarks but the sales assistant didn't request one from me. I do sometimes think it's the luck of the draw in situations like that.

    essexgirly, that's just not fair.
I'll have to print out my card statement then, I feel cheated with the poor quality shoe.
    Thanks

  • i bought my dd a pair of school shoes last summer in the sale, come september she wore them for 1 day and the strap broke, great i thought, now i'm going to have to buy a pair at full price (sale stuff all long gone) but i went in, told the sa i'd bought them in the sale and she told us to choose another pair - any pair!! I couldn't believe it. She just overrode (if thats a word?) the price and gave them to us!! the pair my dd chose were more expensive than the ones i had bought when they were full price:T
so they can do something if they want to.

Ring the head office.. or ask to speak to the store manager.. they are usually better.

I had several pairs of those horrid Daisy shoes with the dolls in.. the insole collapsed after a couple of days and the shop just swapped them.. no arguing..

I only once had to contact the head office.. and they were fabulous.. they actually told me to keep the shoes and creditted my bank card with the full costs of 3 pairs of shoes which had all been fitted wrong.
