So you get charged for your bag anyway? Even if it's under the weight limit? I didn't know that. God, no wonder I never travel.

Is that a rule of thumb? IE I'm flying with delta and no matter how much my bags weights I'll be charged?

    Or have I totally misunderstood?

pass on delta, never used them, i use our (un)popular low cost airlines

for our family holiday we pay for a case in the hold, our choice as
we need it and my o/h buys the suntan lotions cheap, add the smellies for the kids (and us) which go without the restrictions in liquids in those cases, though they can be strict on weights

if/when i grab a few kiddy free days away (2 weeks to go!!)
we make do with minimum luggage, free 10kg each, but you've got to check your hand luggage for restrictions, up to 1000ml in liquids in no more than 100ml bottles which is more than ample for me,
i said earlier, Ive never been weighed on my hand luggage, but it does happen
  • IF going on a seaside holiday in a hot country I only take 5 days worth of clothing. Buy a bowl, wash the clothes - they dry quickly. I don't take anything that needs ironing though. So that cuts down on luggage. Only good advice if you are going somewhere warm and sunny and you have a balcony to dry clothes on.

Buy a bowl? Isn't that what bathroom sinks are for? Also, if you are in places like South East Asia then you can get laundry done for pennies.

But otherwise I agree. There's no point in taking enough clothes with you for a 2 week holiday. 3 or 4 days supply is enough then just cycle them. I'm on holiday not on a fashion parade.

I bought this suitcase from Argos for this years holiday. Good price, light, big and strong. Would highly recommend it.
  • If its a hand luggage only trip I take a holdall because I an get more in. If I check a bag in its always a backpack because they're easier to transport. Can't be doing with dragging suitcases around and hefting them in and out of cars / trains / buses :rotfl:

I am a fan of soft luggage,i.e a suitcase shaped container which isnt made of rigid material. They weigh less, and are less prone to damage.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Holdall - you can fit more in and it's lighter empty.
