am i entitled to Council tax benefit???

hi everyone, i am new here and have just spent a few minutes inputting all my details into the benefits checker.

my husband works full time and last year earned £31,500 gross. i am a stay at home mum with 3 kids and work occasional weekends for a bit of pocket money ( only earned £770 last year) we get £43.70 in child tax credits weekly.

the benefits checker results tell me that as we receive tax credits at that amount we are entitled to full council tax benefit, which is the first i have heard of this! obviously this would help immensely with our budget so i hope it is correct. :j
i have checked on the government criteria for recieving ctb but cant see any reference to ctc recipients in their list.

does anyone know if i would be entitled to it?

thanks in advance:D

i can't see how you would be entitled to council tax benefit on your household income, and to be honest i'm stunned that you get £43 a week ctc!

You are not entitled to it. It is working tax credit that would entitle you to it not CTC. You are well over the limit for it.
  • I don't think that is correct, we have 2 kids and our total household income this year is less than half of what your husband earns (I'm a full time student this year) and according to the CTB calculator on our local council website we are eligible for around £2 CTB per week.

I am waiting for the proper confirmation from the council, BUT if I am eligible for a further grant of £2642 from student finance that I didn't know about and applied for last week then our CTB goes down to £0, so I'm not sure which benefit calculator you've used but I think it might be wrong!

Have you declared your income to tax credits? As £43 a week, sounds too much.

I thought it was based on household income and not receipt of certain benefits. We aren't eligible for WTC any more but we are eligible for CTB. Perhaps I am wrong?

I just did a quick quote on 'entitled to' and it comes up on that income with 3 children as £43.70 per week, but it comes up with £0.00 for CTB.

Sorry OP, you'll have to let this one go.
