Budget insurance

Hi all

A small vent about budget insurance
My mum had a policy with them and they should have auto renewed the policy on the 6th august 2011, for some reason they tried to auto renew from a different card number so it was rejected by the bank, and budget set cancelation of policy into motion.

I got my mum new insurance with another company at £100 cheaper than budget.

After phoning budget to make sure they were not going to take the money or have a canceled policy on her file i was told she is now dual insured wich is illegal.

After an hour of aurguing with them on the phone and them telling me it will be £250 to cancel her policy, they then proced to drop themselves in it by admiting to me that they tried to take it from a wrong account, i asked what the last four didgits were on the auto renew policy and they matched the last four didgits on the card she paid her insurance in full on last year but they tried to auto renew on a card with different last four didgits on.

They then said oh would you like to make full payment now, my answer was no seems as you could not auto renew from the right card its your mistake and i want the policy canceled and no fees involved in doing so.

She said i will need to go speak to my manager and call you back, 10 mins later call back to say policy cancled no fees involved, politley i say thank you very much for you help today have a nice day. :0)

Yes i wasted an hour of my time but it was a free phone number, i know they were in the wrong so happy with the outcome as my mum is now insured £100 cheaper than budget, so all in all i suppose i am happy they did make a mistake but most people would not fight and would have had to pay fees.

So they managed to not take payment for the policy due to their own incompetence, then tried to demand that you pay them for their mistake regardless of whether you cancelled the policy or not? Unbelievable! Isn't Budget a brand of BISL, who are totally useless?

Yeah, BISL ownes lots of brands of insurance e.g. Post Office, ibuyeco, all of which are pretty useless.

I hate any policy that tries to autorenew. Breakdown, Insurance, whatever, especially the ones that only give you the cheap deal if you don't opt out of this or just provide no way to opt out at all.

I make a point of using a card that expires in less than a year if dealing with one of these companies. Wish there was a better way though.

I have heard of Admiral just putting an incorrect expiry date in and processing it anyway...
