help! advice on deposits

I have booked the function room for a party next year however i am horrified after reading on a local news website that the place may be closed down due to underage drinking and drug use.

Does anyone have any idea if i can legally have a refund on my deposit as i definately do not wish to have this at the venue anymore =(

  • Thinking critically since 1996....
  • I suppose your question should be if its closed down can I get my deposit back - if it's closed down then you definitely wouldn't be having your party there.

  • Does your contract say anything about cancellation? Often there will be something written in to tell you when/if you can cancel and any penalties for doing so.

If they lose their licence it doesn't necessarily mean they can't still have functions - they would still be able to use Temporary Event Notices for alcohol sales/entertainment several times a year.

I think the question here is - "I've booked this place then found out about its reputation for unsavoury/illegal activities, so no longer want it. Can I get my deposit back?"

somethingcorporate's reply essentially answers the question. :)
