Transfer of US dollars abroad?

Hi,
I have a Canadian friend who use to live with me here in London. She has since moved back to Canada. She left nearly $1550 US dollars with me for safe keeping while she lived here and forgot to get it off me again before she went back to Canada.
She wants me to open a US dollar account (I discovered Citibank offer one) and deposit the money into it. She then wants me to transfer the money from this account to her US dollar account (that she has recently opened in Canada). I don't really want to go through the whole bother of opening a US dollar account for which I would have no use for.
What other options are available to me to get her money to her? She is reluctant to have me post it to her. I would appreciate any advice from the forum community. Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

I'm not sure about this but I believe you can't just deposit US banknotes into US dollar accounts here. You can see if a Western Union outlet will accept US dollars to send abroad without converting to pounds first, otherwise the easiest thing to do is to wait until you see each other again... or just go to a bureau de change and then wire it over to her - and she won't forget to take her money next time (if there is a next time)!0
