I've 2 and wouldn't be without them for the world....
Re costs ..
Food - buy when offers are on and you can make huge savings:
2kg bag of Royal Canin at the pet shop is £17 = £8.50 / cat / month
10kg bag online for £39 (RRP £56) = £4 / cat / month
HUGE saving (and cheaper than some of the carp foods available in supermarkets
Same with wet food ...
If you've a L*idl / A*ldi, they do wet food reasonably priced - have discovered my "wee horror" (gourmet pate only:) around 40p for 85g) will eat these & at around 20p for 100g!:D that should cut this down a bit too!
Litter - always useful to have a tray as others have said it's often the way you can spot "trouble". Mine also both cross their legs when they're out and head for it when they come in!:)
Again, if you bulk buy/look for offers it's not too bad - I can get 30L of wood litter (lasts at least a month) for under £8 but it's £15 in the pet shop ....
Jabs - around £80 here and boosters are £40 ish
Neutering - my boy was about £35 (now 5) and the girl (now 3) was about £80
Microchip - done when they were neutered, about £20
Scratchers are essential (saves furniture) - I've got 4
 - all used and no scratched furniture so it's worth it (again have a hunt around for offers, I got the last one for £5 in a sale & it's fab)
Bedding - an old pillow with a fleecy blanket over should be fine until you find out it's going to be a "bed sleeping cat" or a "sleep anywhere cat";)
Outside - my girl cat only goes out when I'm here (bad knee so need to keep an eye on her) but my boy has the choice ... 9/10 he comes in when I yell before I go to work but if he stays out, I've a dog kennel (entrance 1/2 blocked up, carpet on floor
and old duvet with fleecy blanket over) for him to shelter in - so a shed would be fine.:D
.... sorry for the long post ..... HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
Oh, and it gives me another gratuitous opportunity to post a picture of the little sausage :rotfl:

That's fine by me, Fridaycat.
In fact I was going to ask you to post some more weekend photos of your new babies.
Hope Spot is OK.
None of my cats have liked the sisal-type scratching post.
My cat before Murphy used to pull his paws away when I tried to show him where to scratch.0 -
love the pics and thanks everyone for the adviceloves to knit and crochet for others0

You'll regret asking for more pics :rotfl:- you'll be sick of seeing them soon!
Spot is absolutely fine now - he is back to his two speed setting (along with his sister) - (1) bombing around like a demented idiot and (2) completely zonked out wherever he flops
There is nothing in between. Thanks for asking about him
Our adult cats never really take much notice of the little scratcher in the picture, it's used more as a door stop, but the kittens have played on it a few times. They also love the sisal on the cat tree, as do the adults. Still, it hasn't saved my leather sofas unfortunately, as Friday in particular also loves to scratch that. The joys of being owned by cats :rotfl:0 -

I read somewhere that double sided sticky tape on the scratched area works as they cat's don't like the feel on their paws.0 -
Not always the case regarding the litter.
My adult cats are all allowed outside, yet two of them still use the litter box (as does the third when he is caught short!). One of my cats can be outside for hours, comes back, almost crossing his legs when waiting to come in, uses the litter box and then goes back out again :rotfl:
One of my cats does that. I put the litter tray outside on the patio to try and encourage her to go outside but she still comes back and uses the litter tray on the patio!
Caught her once having a wee in a roller paint tray that next door had left outside to dry!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 2014
