Sorry this is OT for this thread, but just a suggestion for the people looking for cheap laptops as treats for their kids for Christmas...

This won't be as cheap as some of the deals people have found at Tesco, but, have you tried the Dell Outlet for a factory refurbished machine? Both my laptops have been outlet computers because they were so much better value than paying retail. They have free delivery for the next couple of days too.

It means you have to take what they have, rather than having lots of options to change spec. and colour etc. but that's the same for bargains fromTesco too.

Has anyone been to M3rthyr? Looking at store locator seems to be the only one left in my region worth going to as I'm sure Culv3rh0use X, Card1ff P3ng4m, and Card1ff will already have been "looted", so to speak :)

    Hiya
We went to m3rthy4 last Friday. We got 2 of the Sennheiser headphones £5 instead of £44+. Also got a Phillips ladyshave for £10 instead of over £40.
T4lb0t gr33n might be worth a look went there this afternoon for weekly shop and had to go to electrical desk to return an item. They had 3roll cages full if stuff. Printers for £6 don't know make model etc as not looking for a printer.
Did get 2 docking stations one a logitech which should have been £79 for £12.
I think all items are ex display so no boxes and some marks on items- but for that price I can live with some scratches!
Only laptops are the newer ex display and still £300+ lots of tvs reduced as manager specials but again still over £200 to £300+plus-out of my price range!
Heard staff talking and another member if staff bought ex display touch screen laptop/computer instead of £900 they had it for £60!!!

Hope above helps apologies if it makes no sense am typing on my phone!
  • ... Tydfil? Where are you based?

There's a store in P0ntypr!dd (normal I think), an Extra in Talb*t Gr33n, C&erph!lly (normal again)... which all seem to be between C4rdiff and M3rthyr
C&erph!lly - pretty much nothing electrical wise, extremely limited electrical section. Odd stereo, freeview box, etc. No cameras/laptops.
The others not been to. In R1sca, in fact live very close to the Tesco store here.

Is there much in R!sc4? Been considering a trip up there, but as I have exams next week I'd rather not if it'll be a wasted journey? (Mainly looking for a Lumie clock for MIL, but can't find one in my local... and sounds like they're hard to come by!)
You were only killing time and it'll kill you right back

1 B&D £12 jigsaw left last I knew (already have one).
I didn't look for the clock. Seen some mention it could be in the baby aisle?
Tried to buy a £50 netbook before the mad rush (found price on price checker) but told out of stock.
They still had a few £10 digital photoframes.
They have a few ring mini inverters were £30 now £1.75 - let you plug in home electricals into car but max 70w so only good for low power things like laptops.
Saw 2 tesco value deep fat fryers approx £7 each.
Can't think of anything else. Will check for the clocks.

    Absolutely worn out again :)

Got loads of smaller items today mostly household & toys . Asked about laptops but chose a different Sa and he said they had been sold to staff - not enough to meet public demand apparently. so much for the lies I was told by the other SA.

For a change went to Wilkos and got a couple of bargains :)

Made the mistake of going through SS till and ended up with 2 staff standing over me so got flustered. Why do I feel guilty about buying stuff I've sweated hunting out? I must be daft!!

Hoping to get a nice iron but no luck yet but I never give up when it comes to bargain hunting!!

Those ppl missing out on Netbooks / Laptops etc. Don't be too disheartened!. I missed out by a day at my local apparently, in fact the staff said they were fed up of ppl asking them to check barcodes etc on a daily basis to check the prices!.

The models of Laptops and Netbooks being hugely reduced are being done so for good reason I was told. This is very old stock that is likely to struggle with anything you throw at it today. It probably is worth spending the extra money to get something that will still be useable in a few years, rather than something that will struggle as soon as you start using it.

Just my thoughts on all this.

The Toshiba C660-1LD laptops that went on Friday for £179 were definitely not old stock. It has an i3-380M processor, 4GB of RAM and a 630GB hardrive. A similar C660 on the display was being sold for £479 but had an i3-370m processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB Hardrive. I think it was its replacement and got sold to cheaply and early by mistake. It is currently £399 on Tesco Direct.

  • Don't give up! I was categorically told on Monday, that there wouldn't be any 'reduced' Laptops on Sale in my particular store, they only had the 3 that were already on the shelves, and they were only
    reduced by £30, to £299.
When I went in this morning, the same SA told me they'd had a delivery of reduced Laptops. She couldn't believe it herself. She said it is usually only the stock they already have in that they then decide to reduce, but this little lot had been delivered purposely to sell at the reduced prices?!
    Keep trying!

A very big thank you to 'makinprogress'. I checked this thread at 6pm and after reading about reduced laptops in Leeds Br@ml3y I phoned Tesco CS to ask if there were any left but was told that I need to go down and check myself.

So I drove down like a maniac (within legal limits) from Pudsey only to be told at the desk that they have all gone.

Not giving up I went downstairs myself and asked a member of staff who told me that the £99 ones went but there was 1 left for £150.

Back at the CS desk the guy scanned it and said it's coming up at £299 but then said he'll override the price to £150 since the SEL was for £150.

Thank you again, makinprogress. Don't give up guys I'm sure there are more out there. :j:j:j:j:j

Can anyone please tell me if they have come accross the reduced digital photo frames? I would love one for my MIL but as yet have not been able to find any! If anyone had a spare and was willing to sell and I would pay postage I would very much appreciate it, I can pay through paypal!

Some of the staff are nice then and not anti- bargain hunters.
