Santander £200 switch account offer

Hi,

I just got a phone call from someone on a witheld number, claiming to be from Santander and said that as my mortgage is with them, I am pre-approved for a £200 bonus if I switch my current account to them, as well as receiving 5% interest.

I declined and he stated that it is a 3 month offer and that if I change my mind I can enquire at any Santander bank and set it up.

I've done a small amount of research on this acoss google and on MSE, and all I can find is a similar offer, but with a £100 bonus. Anyone else had this call, or taken this offer up?

Another question I have, is that I would be willing to sign up for this, but can I still keep my old account and keep my salary paid in to there, and just transfer the minimum £1000 that I think they require in to the Santander account myself every month?

I think to qualify you need to have at least 2 active direct debits or standing orders set up on the account within 11 weeks of opening. Could this include two standing orders to make small payments in to my other current accounts with other banks?

Another thing is that it seems that you have to use their account switcher tools, in order to make it easy to switch your salary and DD's to them. Can I just use this to set up the two small payments that I described above and bypass the salary switch, and just sort out transferring in the £1000 myself each month?

Thanks

I've recently opened an accout with santander to switch and receive the £100 bonus. I didn't switch my salary across and i didnt close my old account, but i did move 2 direct debits.

When you switch you need to give santander your old account details which they will then contact to get a list of standing orders and direct debits that will be automatically transfered across, so make sure the account details you give them havent got any direct debits you don't want switched.

If you have an account you can use just set up 2 small standing orders on there and let them transfer that one, thats what a lot of people seem to do on here.

Don't worry about the salary transfer as they can't do that automatically and give you a form to send to your employer to get it changed. (Same thing with closing the old account)

    Hope that helps
